On Sept. 10, 1805, exhausted and near starvation, Lewis and Clark, leading the Corp of Discovery, reached an eastern camp of the Nez Perce. They were fed and befriended.
On Jan. 13, 1877, a single life-span later, General O.O. Howard was ordered to remove the last of the free Nez Perce from their homeland.
